Frequently Asked Questions

Why do you do church the way you do?
We believe it takes all kinds of churches to reach all kinds of people. There is no one “right way” to do church. We believe that there are many styles of worship that honor God as long as God’s message does not change. People need to worship in places that meet their needs and speak their language, as well as places that will give them a strong foundation in faith. In our generation we have discovered that most young people have left the traditional church today, and say it no longer speaks their language. Every culture and generation must take the timeless truths of the Bible and seek to communicate them in a way that connects with people in that culture. That's our goal.

In an attempt to connect with today’s culture, do you ever water-down the Bible?
No, God's Word is always our final authority. It's just that so many people in our generation have a tough time understanding Scripture and seeing that it really has practical meaning for their lives. We never back away from the truth simply because we want people to like us, but we will always seek to communicate truth within the language of our culture. That's why at times in our services you may experience the message as much through the arts as through the speaker.

The service on Sunday seems to be focused on the basics of Christianity. How will I continue to grow spiritually?
It's true, the Sunday morning service tends to be geared towards people who are checking out Christianity or who are just taking their first steps toward Christ. We try not to use any religious language that might be confusing to someone who is investigating the Christian faith. That doesn't mean that seasoned Christians aren't going to get a lot out of the service. We deal with hard-hitting, everyday issues that we all face and see what the Bible has to say about those issues. We all grow together on Sunday mornings, but the weekend service is designed to invite our friends who may be spiritually seeking answers to the questions of life.

Our “First Wednesday” service, held the first Wednesday of each month, is a change of pace. It is a time of worship, communion, teaching and connecting to the core of Crossroads. We also offer a Theology Program that will take anyone as deep as they wish to go. Don't worry, between Sunday morning, First Wednesday, the Theology Program and your Growth Group, you will have many opportunities to develop and grow spiritually. Ultimately, our goal is to help each follower of Christ always be seeking their next steps and taking responsibility for their own spiritual growth.

What denomination are you?
We're not part of any denomination. We don’t consider ourselves the only Christians; we're just a group of imperfect people committed to being the church as described in the Bible. If you want to know what we believe, check out our statement of faith here. We are, however, a member of the Willow Creek Association of churches, which is an inter-denominational organization of thousands of churches around the world who are committed to using innovative ways to reach people who don't go to church.

And another thing, we love to work with other churches. We believe unity among Christian churches pleases the heart of God. You'll see us partnering with others to make things happen.

Why do you take an offering?
We have an offering every week to support the spreading of God’s gospel of good news, but it's not for people who are checking out the church. You won't find us trying to squeeze cash out of you every time you walk through the door. Crossroads is supported financially by the people who have chosen to make it their church home. Giving should never flow out of compulsion or guilt, but out of joy and gratitude for all God has given us.

In addition, in matters of finances we highly value people’s trust. All church financial matters are overseen by an elected Board of Trustee’s and audited yearly by an outside accounting firm. All financial books are made open to anyone who inquires.

What are "Growth Groups" and why are they so important?
At Crossroads, we make a big deal about Growth Groups. In a church our size, everybody can't know everybody, but everybody can know somebody. Growth Groups are made up of 8-15 people meeting in homes weekly to develop friendships and discuss the Bible (Click here for more info). We believe that's where your life is going to change the most. When you can get together regularly with the same group of people where you are known, loved, and encouraged, that's when you are really experiencing church the way God intended it. Growth Groups are a vital part of Crossroads… where great friends are made!

What do I wear?
Come as you are, we are very casual. We care about you - not what you wear. (But please, do wear something! :))
